Le Bandit is Hacksaw Gaming’s 2023 Paris caper starring Smokey, a crowbar-wielding raccoon with a taste for leprechaun gold, built on one clean idea: winning clusters leave Golden Squares behind, and a single Rainbow symbol cashes every one of them in at once - up to a 10,000x ceiling. Hacksaw rates it medium volatility, 3 out of 5 on their own scale, which makes it one of the studio’s friendlier grids to learn. The demo is where you find out whether “friendlier” survives contact with the Rainbow’s timing.

How the game works

A 6x5 grid with cluster pays: five or more matching symbols touching horizontally or vertically form a win. Winners vanish and the reels cascade, so one spin can chain several clusters.

The real engine sits underneath the clusters:

  • Golden Squares appear on every position a winning cluster covered. They accumulate as you chain wins - and pay nothing by themselves.
  • The Rainbow is the trigger. When it lands, every Golden Square in view activates, revealing Bronze coins (0.2x to 4x bet), Silver coins (5x to 20x), Gold coins (up to 500x), Four-Leaf Clovers that multiply adjacent coins and pots, or Pots of Gold that collect the values around them.

A board full of Golden Squares with a Clover next to a fat Gold coin is where the big screenshots come from. A board full of Golden Squares and no Rainbow is where most spins actually end - that tension is the whole game.

Free spins: three tiers of the heist

Scatters set the tier:

  • 3 scatters - Luck of the Bandit: the base round, listed in reviews at 8 spins.
  • 4 scatters - All That Glitters Is Gold: an upgraded round with 12 spins.
  • 5 scatters - Treasure at the End of the Rainbow: also listed at 12 spins, with a Rainbow guaranteed on every spin, so the Golden Squares you build actually get paid instead of expiring unactivated.

Retriggers are reported to add 2 or 4 extra spins for landing further scatters. The bonus buy menu covers the range: Hacksaw’s BonusHunt FeatureSpins cost 3x your stake for 5x enhanced odds of triggering a bonus naturally, and reviews list direct buys at roughly 50x for Rainbow FeatureSpins, 100x for Luck of the Bandit, and 250x for All That Glitters Is Gold. Databases put the odds of the full 10,000x at roughly 1 in 14 million spins - treat it as a ceiling, not a target.

RTP honesty check

Hacksaw Gaming’s own game page lists four builds: 96.34%, 94.23%, 92.17%, and 88.36%. That is not a footnote - the gap between the top and bottom build is nearly 8 percentage points, and the casino, not you, decides which one you get. Reviews also report a slightly higher figure, around 96.40%, on the feature buys. Check the info panel where you play before any real bet; our RTP guide shows exactly where to look.

The bottom line

Le Bandit earns its cult status honestly: a charming thief, a cluster engine that constantly builds toward something, and a Rainbow mechanic that turns every spin into a small hostage negotiation between your Golden Squares and the reels. Medium volatility keeps sessions readable, which makes the demo genuinely useful - learn how often the Rainbow actually shows up before you pay for the privilege. If grid-and-cascade games are your thing, our Jammin’ Jars demo and Reactoonz demo cover two other takes on the format.

When you are ready for real bets, pick the casino by its payout record, not its bonus size - our honest casino reviews rank sites on exactly that.
